Nica Burns commissioned PixelLux to co-create captivating artwork for the bar area of her new theatre 'Soho Place' - the first new theatre built in London's 'West End' in 50 years. Her team approached several theatre practitioners with whom she had worked, including Robert Jones, who designed the artistic concept and physical elements (these include Swarovski diamonds arranged in constellations that tie in with the bar's theme). Nina Dunn our Creative Director designed projections that would add expression, variation in colour and dynamic through their slowly evolving movement. The system was designed by PixelLux’s Technical Director, Harrison Cooke.
The display continues to run the length of the bar and uses 12 ultra-short-throw projectors blended to create a single image powered by a Pixera media server.
The arrangement was dictated by the space's architectural features—columns and stairs. A 3D model of the whole area enabled us to calculator projector positions to ensure we achieved the desired look while overcoming the challenges of the environment (only one round of rigging was required). The 3D model also guided us regarding the brightness of projectors and enabled us to spec the correct projectors and lenses.
We provide ongoing support for the installation, including offering remote assistance for any issues that might arise within the system. This ensures any technical problems can be quickly and effectively resolved, minimising downtime and ensuring the continuous operation of the display. We also contribute to the annual upkeep of the system, covering software updates, alignment checnks and machine cleaning where necessary. This ensures the installaton remains high quality and accurate.
