At PixelLux, we thrive at the intersection of creative video storytelling and innovative systems design - bringing both together to deliver standout results. This approach came to life on Oscar At The Crown, where we were invited to create both the video content and design the accompanying technical systems, ensuring the entire production worked seamlessly as one. This was particularly key for this new immersive musical, staged in a purpose-built bunker beneath Tottenham Court Road.
Working across both elements enabled us to integrate the creative content with a tailored technical system that met the production’s parameters, whilst retaining an element of flexibility and resilience ensuring we were able to respond to the changing needs of both the production and the developing venue. We oversaw equipment sourcing and purchasing logistics, as well as advising on cabling and power infrastructure.
Creative use of live-feed CCTV-style screens brought an immersive, voyeuristic energy to the space, and were then interspersed with footage that reinforced the dystopian elements of the storytelling. As was befitting an immersive production, these elements are active from the moment the audience enters the space, and integrated seamlessly into Andrew Exeter’s set design. This synthesis of set design, video systems and creative content was also employed throughout the performance space, including bespoke elements for the VIP area, a TV wall installation dressed as period TVs but using cutting-edge technology, and a two-way mirror/LED wall installation which enabled us to extend the space virtually at key moments throughout the production.
Our support of the production continued beyond the opening performances. As the bunker space developed into an award-winning venue its use extended beyond the production to third party hours. The flexible video systems design has meant that, with some additional support from PixelLux, Producers have been able to offer hirers various options for displaying their own video content within the venue.
