PixelLux box up some Christmas magic at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Nina was invited back for her 6th show at the Royal Shakespeare Company to reinvent a production of The Box of Delights, based on John Masefield’s novel adapted by Piers Torday and directed by Justin Audibert. She joined forces with Matthew Brown to bring the imagery into a new and exciting realm harnessing both the power of Unreal Engine and AI to elevate the design on Tom Piper’s reimagined set. 
 
Projection is used in the show to conjure magic spells, imagined locations, transport cast members and to add to the narrative. The team worked closely with the Puppet designer and director to pre-film and integrate both shadow puppetry and physical puppetry in the space. They used camera tracked notch to activate magic effects around moving cast and puppets and created worlds that leant extra depth and dimension to the space and with music and the movement director to animate and embellish physical changes in the space.

Nina and Matt worked with the in-house team alongside Harrison Cooke from PixelLux to achieve almost full stage and surface coverage - a challenge when the space extends right out into the auditorium in mid air at times - using a total of 6 projectors run from Pixera media server with two live cameras. 
 
The show has really come to life at the RST with its new imagery across the adventure playground of a set and provides the perfect Christmas adventure story for families.
